Going out is great, but staying in can be just as much fun! I’ve recently started inviting friends over around once a month for a girl’s night in and we all have a blast. I recently hosted a Sex and the City party. My first step in planning was of course to search “Sex and the City party” on pinterest. They had some great ideas for dessert tables and very pink decor, but I wanted to go a little more low key. I started brain storming on my own, came up with a few activities, and created the to-do list below:
Step 1: Find a kickass Cosmo recipe! No Sex and the City night is complete without the ladies’ signature drink, the Cosmopolitan. There are a ton out there, but I used the recipe below and the drinks were super strong and very fruity. I ended up doubling the 4 serving recipe and mixing the ingredients in a large pitcher because there were 6 of us and I, sadly, don’t have a fancy cocktail shaker.
For 1 Serving: 1/4 cup vodka, 1 tbsp triple sec, 1 tbsp + 1.5 tsp cranberry juice, 1.5 – 3 tsp fresh lime juice
For 4 Servings: 1 cup vodka, 1/4 cup triple sec, 1/3 cup cranberry juice, 2 – 4 tbsp fresh lime juice
Step 2: Locate the Sex and the City DVD’s that you have for either the tv series or the movies. (We ended up watching the 2nd movie because not everyone had seen it).
Step 3: Print out The ‘Which Sex and the City Character are You’ quiz. Like many other girls who grew up in the 90’s, I spent many a Saturday afternoon, sleepover, and recess playing MASH and taking quizzes to find out whether I was better suited for JTT or Devon Sawa. Now, as an adult, I take quizzes to find out which fabulous NYC lady my personality best matches. Are you and your friends a Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, or Miranda? Step 4: Plan out a party game. I looked high and low for a Sex and the City party game that I liked and when I couldn’t find one I made one up myself! I put together a list of quotes (Sex and the City Quotes) and gave each of the girls at my party four items to represent each of the ladies from the show: a fancy shoe for Carrie, a paintbrush for Charlotte, a book for Miranda, and a cocktail glass for Samantha. I read each quote aloud while each participant held up the object associated with the person they believed to have said the quote. I kept track of points and the person with the most correct guesses got a prize at the end!
Each of the women who came to the party brought an appetizer-y dish to share. The hit of the night was Laura’s baked brie with a brown sugar, Kahlua, and walnut topping. So, so, so good! The night was inexpensive, relaxing, and super fun which was great for a weeknight get together!
