When my husband asked me how I wanted to spend my birthday weekend I couldn’t decide. I though that turning 29 meant I had to something wild and crazy and 21-esque…turns out I just wanted to eat. We started the weekend and the actual night of my birthday Sept. 11) at Joey Garlic’s for dinner where I had eggplant fries, fettuccine carbonara, and multiple shots of soco and lime.
That Saturday we ventured out to the Mystic Eats Riverside Food Festival. If you’ve never been you need to go next year! You buys $1 tickets and trade them for samples of different dishes from local restaurants. It was set up right by the water so the view was beautiful! I ate my way through a steak sandich from Octagon Steakhouse, a tuna taco from Harbour House, and the best crab cake I’ve ever had from Mystic Boathouse. We then went out to dinner with friends, because we hadn’t eaten enough, at Engine Room in downtown Mystic. We sat at the chefs table which was fun and I had the biggest BLT ever created.
That Sunday my parents graciously hosted a ‘Birthday Brunch.’ My mom made blueberry buckle muffins, pineapples upside down muffins, chocolate chip crumb cake, sausage and egg casserole, and my favorite breakfast item…bacon.
