This is the third year in a row that my husband and I have hosted our annual adult Halloween Costume Party. We pretty much have it down to a science now. We send out the Facebook event invites at the end of August/beginning of September. This may seem ridiculous, but our friends know to look for it, plus it gives them the date to plan around. We start decorating around mid-September and start party food and drink prep lists at the beginning of October. We use a Halloween playlist, hand-picked by my husband, for the outside speakers and have the Pandora Halloween station on in the living room.
We pick a theme every year because we think it’s fun, plus it encourages people to really get into making their costume. It’s a not a true DIY costume unless part of it came from Goodwill! The theme this year was Villains which was a blast. I was Cruella De Ville and my husband was Jason. We had another more inventive costume planned for him, but we started on it too late, so he decided to adopt not only the costume, but also the persona of Jason for the evening.
Being in your 30’s and dressing up automatically makes the night fun, but you of course need to add some amazing food and lots of drinks to bump up the party. I’ve included the full list of food and cocktails we provided below and linked recipes back to the blog I got them from…what did people do before Pinterest? If there’s no link it means the recipe came from my mom, ha! We always put all the savory dishes out on a big table with plates at the beginning of the night and then trade them out for desserts as the night goes on. I’m baking obsessed and use the Halloween party to go overboard every single year.
